About Us

The Turkey Inn at Goose Eye is a traditional Yorkshire pub based near Haworth. Taken over by local residents Steve Mortimer and Fay Howell in November 2020, we wanted to transform The Turkey Inn into a welcoming, family and dog friendly pub known for good pub food and real local ale. With roaring fires and lots of cosy corners to relax in, The Turkey Inn is the perfect place to unwind after a walk on the moors or a long day at work.

Steve has lived in Keighley all his life and most of his family live within a mile of The Turkey Inn at Goose Eye, in fact back in the 1930s Steve’s family used to own the pub! The dream for us as a couple started when Fay first stepped into the popular Yorkshire pub commenting that it “was a pub I would love to own one day.”

When the pub came to market a number of people mentioned we should look to purchase it. The Turkey Inn has always been our stop at the end of a good walk and our go to dining spot on a weekday evening if we didn’t feel like cooking. Being dog and muddy boot friendly was always a bonus after a walk in the woods, or a fishing afternoon at the nearby Teapot dam.

We want The Turkey Inn to be at the heart of the community in Goose Eye. We use local produce, including locally sourced meats, vegetables, spirits and beers where possible. Our own High Farm Belted Galloways have even made it onto the menu too, they have been hand-reared on our land just 500 meters away from the pub, see below for more information on our field to fork project.

Come and join us at The Turkey Inn if you’re looking for a traditional Yorkshire pub, with roaring fires, good pub food and locally brewed ales. We have a delicious Sunday Roast available every weekend and welcome muddy boots, walkers, day trippers and of course, your four-legged friends.

From field to fork

We’re passionate about providing the best quality local produce for our customers and, we want to use the best meat we can on the menu. We’re also passionate about being honest regarding the food on your plate which is why we wanted to share this with you.

We have reared our own Belted Galloway cattle just 500m from the pub, on the farm where we live. Our herd are British Belted Galloway, they are amongst the best beef there is. They live the life of Riley and feel like part of our family, they spend most of their lives in the field, having a great time.

Recently, the time was right for two of them to leave the farm as part of our “field to fork project”. We gathered them in from the field and shared one last moment before they left the farm. We’re extremely proud that not only is there total transparency on our beef supply chain but that it’s local, fresh, high quality produce.

What does this mean? At certain times of the year, the beef you see on the menu at the Turkey Inn came from 500m away. It doesn’t get much more local than that!

The rest of our Belted Galloway herd are still on the farm and living their best life in the fields up the road from the pub. They continue to raise calves and roam happily.
